Medical Excellence JAPAN (MEJ) and Medical Excellence Thailand held the ME Thailand Seminar in Tokyo, on January 30, 2025, in collaboration with the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA).
As part of the MExx activities, MEJ is working with ERIA to establish Medical Excellence THAILAND (ME Thailand), an interactive framework in the country to promote industry-government-academia-medical collaboration between Japan and Thailand.
The goal of this seminar was to establish a foundation for Medical Excellence Thailand in Japan by introducing the initiative and highlighting its mission to enhance collaboration between the two countries in the medical and wellness industry.
Program

The Forum featured opening remarks by Dr. Kenji Shibuya(CEO of MEJ), Dr. Shibuya introduced MEJ and ME Thailand's initiatives and expectations.
The seminar was structured into three key sections, each emphasizing critical aspects of Thailand’s growing collaboration with Japan in the medical and wellness industry.
◆ME Thailand Over view:
The introduction of Medical Excellence Thailand: Mr. Chayaporn Phornprapha, CEO of Medical Excellence Thailand joined remotely from Thailand to elaborate on the association’s role and responsibilities. His vision for Medical Excellence Thailand is to bridge Japanese healthcare expertise and technology with Thailand and ASEAN countries, fostering a strong platform for cross-border collaboration.
◆Thailand Healthcare Business Landscape:
The second section featured a live onsite explanation of Thailand’s governmental policies supporting medical and wellness tourism, led by Dr. Ngamnetr Eiamnakha, Chief of Planning and Information Section at the Bureau of Medical Industrial Promoting, Ministry of Public Health.
◆Building Bridges: Thailand’s Potential for Japanese Enterprise

2. Mr. Sranyoo Chanate - CEO of Kluaynamthai Hospital 1; Executive Vice President of Kluaynamthai Hospital Group
The final section provided insights from the private sector, where notable figures in Thailand’s healthcare industry shared their perspectives on strengthening partnerships with Japan. Mr. Sranyoo Chanate (Kluaynamthai Hospital) discussed the hospital’s commitment to international standards, including its JCI accreditation and vision to become a leading smart hospital. Dr. Viroj Vasusuttikulkant (SAINTmed Public Co., Ltd.,) emphasized the role of private enterprises in advancing medical innovation and Thailand’s position as an international health hub. Their insights reinforced Thailand’s readiness to work with Japanese companies and government entities, laying a strong foundation for future collaboration in the medical and wellness industries.
During the Q&A session, the participants asked questions about the use of AI in the medical field in Thailand and the academic hub in healthcare between Japan and Thailand, indicating the high level of interest in Thailand.
In closing remarks, Dr. Manami Uechi (Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA)) shared closing remarks, pointing to the potential of ME Thailand and its expected impact on Thailand, Japan and the wider region.
The seminar concluded with an announcement of the 2nd MEJ-ME Thailand Forum to be held in Khon Kaen Thailand on March 27 on the sidelines of the ISAN Wellness Summit.
The seminar was also very successful, including networking, with about 50 local participants on the day. We will continue to plan future events in collaboration with ME Thailand.
